And now ‘The Unblinking Eye.’ This is a great run of episodes.
Yeah there’s an outstanding run of episodes to end season 4, such a great season. I think it’s my favorite CI season overall, so many terrific plots - it is the darkest season of CI with a lot of creepy or horrifying cases but most of them were pulled off very well.
It’s criminal that CI never got a single Emmy nomination. Not a one, for anything.
Absolutely, CI was a great show, great writing and acting. Then again I don’t think how many awards a show gets is representative of how good it is.
CI gets kind of underrated now because it went for “only” 10 seasons while the Mothership and SVU are both 20 seasons plus and counting now. But CI is a superior spinoff to SVU, although I really like early season SVU, the show has descended into total garbage now. CI had a drop off some in season 6 but it never became crap, and it went out on a very high note in season 10.
Watching CI tonight on Charge - Prisoner started the marathon - one of the couple of episodes not dealing with murder but a strong episode nonetheless, about the scummy warden embezzling and having his wife abducted. Good plot and investigation.
Unchained on now, about the dirty cops working for the mob, another strong plot - the cop pimping out his daughter was such a scumbag lowlife. His partner wasn’t any better. Another good episode, and I liked the mention of Lennie Briscoe and how he got jammed up by a dirty cop.
Weird that Carver wasn’t in either episode though.
And “Acts of Contrition” is on now on Charge!. The marathon ends with Part 1 of “In The Wee Small Hours”, a strong block of episodes!
Excellent block of episodes, although it’s weird they are airing Wee Small Hours on two different nights instead of airing them both tonight and bumping one episode to tomorrow. Still it’s an excellent block of episodes, Wee Small Hours is my all time favorite CI as you know, and Acts of Contrition is good as well, although Goren’s sympathy for Sister Olivia kind of annoys me, at least he came around at the end when he realized her full involvement in the hate crime. It’s a good episode for Carver, he got more of a role and he was right that Sister Olivia needed to be held accountable for her silence.
Love love love Acts of Contrition. Great performance by Susan Misner.
It’s a really strong episode, Sister Olivia’s breakdown at the end was memorable. Good investigation, Eddie was one of CI’s more sympathetic perps given his backstory and the fact that the murder wasn’t premeditated, but he lost sympathy with me when he tried to frame the homeless guy. I was just annoyed at Goren’s sympathy for Sister Olivia and not wanting the truth to come out at first, Carver was right that she needed to be held accountable for her silence.
See, this an episode where Goren’s empathy makes sense to me. She did a horrible thing and she tortured herself for it. Of course, she should have come forward. But she isn’t a Tagman who was ever going to commit that act again. She ultimately understood she had to reap what she sowed.
I hear what you’re saying but Carver was correct when he said she needed to account for her silence, Goren was wrong when he wanted it her role to remain secret, he realized Carver was right at the end once he knew she was an active participant in the attack and not just a witness. While she was remorseful, she still deserved to go to prison for her role in the attack. Goren was wrong at first when he wanted it to remain secret. I was on Carver’s side throughout.
BUT it wasn’t just Goren that felt for Sister Olivia here.
Even Eames told Carver that her confessing now “would only hurt her girls”. So, right or wrong, both sympathized with Olivia.
On another note, tonight is the last all-nighter for CI, as it is the last time Sundance seems to be airing the show. So, once the Charge! marathon ends at 1:00 a.m., the Sundance block then airs from 1:00 a.m. through 4:00 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.
Enjoy!
It’s too bad only Charge airs it now - while I love having 4 hours of CI most nights, the censorship on Charge drives me nuts.
Anyway, just watched part 2 of Wee Small Hours, and Goren getting “Hot Tub Harry” to admit to the rape is one of CI’s very best scenes IMO - Goren was superb in it. Harold Garrett was such an a slimy lowlife it was satisfying to see Goren get him to incriminate himself. I would like to know what prison sentence he got for the rape. The Garrett family were dysfunctional losers - a common theme on CI!
There will be yet another CI marathon airing on Charge!, beginning at noon ET on Saturday, July 20th, until 1:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, July 21st. So, if you have no summer plans or if the weather sucks, etc., you have something to watch.
The seasons will jump around on this one again, so a little of everything.
Great marathon of CI starting in a few minutes on Charge - some classic episodes airing, starts with Beast, then Shrink-Wrapped, then Poison - those are 3 of my favorites. Jumps around some then all of the Nicole episodes are going to be shown to end the marathon - not a Nicole fan whatsoever but up until then a lot of great episodes.
Always great to have a marathon, but waaay too much Nicole for me. LOL! (But I still watched. And I STILL loved Bobby’s stare down and eyebrow raise toward Ross in “Frame”.
VDO really rocked that scene.
Also loved the yuppie shoe store playacting in “Anti-Thesis”, too, as usual. So that stuff mitigates my feelings about the episodes, even if Nicole lurks. LOL
Yeah I enjoy the scene at the shoe store in Anti Thesis, that was good. The Nicole arc would’ve been okay if she had died at the end of Great Barrier - it really jumped the shark when she escaped again in that episode.
Posted this in the Mothership thread, but since Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe both had guest roles in Season 6 (with their episodes airing just a week apart!), I figured this news fits here:
Homicide: Life On The Street will stream on Peacock as of August 19th!
Betrayed was just on Charge - it’s a good case but Ross is even worse than normal and that’s saying something. What a dick he was to Goren/Eames, he had major blinders on and never even had the decency to apologize for his rude behavior. I really can’t stand Ross. Pisses me off that he got so much more screentime than Deakins who was great.
