I’ve adequately indulged in consumerism for a good while!

Hey, economic stimulation is a good thing! :joy: (Even if our wallets may disagree!)

My previously healthy 4yo cat was limping a bit this morning as I got ready for work - reviewing home cameras, it had been going on for a couple of hours. Then quickly progressed to intermittent inability to use her hind legs. Turns out she has a saddle thrombus, secondary to (previously undiagnose) cardiomyopathy and heart failure. I had to bring her about an hour away to the local veterinary college, where she remains in ICU and could suddenly die at any time - sudden death is a risk of treatment. If she survives, she will always be at risk of sudden death due to a clot recurrence, though she will be on lifelong medications to try to prevent this. Not to mention the issue of heart failure.

So yeah, it’s been a terrible day. And not at all how I saw my day going when I woke up this morning. Send good vibes to Luna, please.

She will have a formal cardiac evaluation in the morning - if she survives til then - and depending on the status of that, I still may decide to euthanize. Sounds like the initial preliminary imaging was not promising, but given her age and the ~40% chance of immediate survival we were given, I didn’t want to make a permanent decision without having all of the information.

Some of you may remember my previous kitty, who died of a saddle thrombus, secondary to cancer. So you can imagine how thrilled I am to be dealing with this “rare” diagnosis again, although the decision making for a cat with stage 4 cancer is a lot more straightforward than it is for a cat that was previously perfectly fine.

Oh no! I’m so sorry. I hope Luna makes a miraculous recovery.

Sending love and good vibes to your precious Luna, @TheVelveteenRabbit28 !

Thanks everyone. Her lab work was worsening last night and they called me in, and she herself seemed a bit less comfortable than she had been. With the worsening labwork her prognosis became significantly more grim, so I opted for euthanasia.

This is so sad and hard, especially with how young she was. I got Luna in Jan 2023, as part of a bonded pair. Her “other half” is confused and devastated as to why Luna is no longer here.

I’m so sorry about your cat. Losing a pet is extremely painful, pets are family

I am so terribly sorry. We have been there, and the grief is so hard. But you did the best thing you could for her and gave her a beautiful life.

While intellectually we know they all won’t live to a ripe old age, that doesn’t take the pain away.

Oh, I’m so sorry, @TheVelveteenRabbit28 . That is the only downside to owning a fur baby. Sending hugs, and give Luna’s other half a few extra cuddles, too. :broken_heart:

Wish me luck on my first TNR attempt. I named the little guy Barnaby for the paper work.

How did it go @scarlett45 ?

My first TNR was a success. Barnaby was confirmed male, neutered and vaccinated, released into my yard.

But this is Barnaby. I trapped a completely different cat!

PeeWee is doing well - he got a haircut and a bath this week. His blood pressure is a bit high so we’ve adjusted his meds, other than that he’s very healthy and happy!

Omg look at that sweet boy.

My friend’s got a new puppy (bernadoodle) named Huey, their 12yrs old twins are so excited. I sent a gift of Cosmo’s fav treats and poop bags to welcome him home.

Here is PeeWee - he’s had to go on a couple of new meds as his heart disease has worsened and his blood pressure is high - I’m concerned for him because there’s no cure for the heart stuff he has, he still has a lot of energy though and seems to be in good spirits. He’ll turn 14 next month so he’s an old dog now. He’s a great pet.

Thank you! PeeWee is taking his meds without issue and seems to be doing well - his energy level is normal and nothing seems off.
