Thanks for creating!
Definitely about time for a rewatch soonâŚ.
Please let us know if you hear anything about streaming in the states.
I started the new Degrads podcast with Shane Kippel (Spinner) and Mike Lobel (Jay).
I think they will be very engaging and it will be an amazing ride.
Ooh, i didnât know this podcast was a thing. I love that theyâre going ep by ep. Will definitely check it out.
In the most recent episode they were talking about Episode 4, where Terri is concerned about her weight and going to the dance.
Shane and Mike said that they never saw Terri as âfatâ or âoverweightâ. I know that the 90s and early 2000s was a horrific time for women in Hollywood, but Terri was overweight, and I was so damn glad to see an overweight teen on tv because there was NO representation whatsoever ever. It was clear to me that Spinner liked her but didnât pursue it because he was concerned what people would say.
Growing up as an obese kid at that time I do think I was spared so many of those body image issues because I wasnât even âin the discussionâ. If every girl over a size 0 or 2 was called âfatâ then what were you saying to me?
Given that Christina (who played Terri) grew up to become a plus size model, it was clear she was gorgeous, but was bigger than a typical teen girl 25yrs ago.
I find that interesting that they didnât think she was overweight. Not only was she the only larger person on the show, but they did reference her weight often (to the credit of the show, it wasnât ever super negative; the character was harder on herself than the others were, which I also think tends to be true in real life.).
I personally never understood why no one was trying to date her character because she was the most gorgeous girl on the original incarnation of the show (until Cassie/Manny hit puberty: âI wanna be hot. Not cute; not adorable. Hot.â My second favorite scene on television evah! Lol.). I mean, I was already an adult when TNG came out, so my grown up brain knew it was because she wasnât âthinâ and TV shows canât ever have the not thin girl have more than the othersâŚ

I thought we were the same age for some reason (only a year or two older than the OG cast)
Terri was gorgeous (and is) but she as plus size, specially by 2000s standards. More kids are obese now so she wouldnât stick out (other than for her beauty).
Iâve been super busy, I need to catch up on the podcast episodes. But yes, I knew that she couldnât have a strong storyline with a love interest because she was heavier.
I think I was 19/20, when The Next Generation Debuted, but I didnât start watching it regularly until I was 25 (Iâd started rewatching the original while working on my mastersâ thesis and decided when those seasons ended âlet me actually watch these news ones, instead of just catching them here and thereâ, and the I was hooked, lol!)
Oh okay. I had just turned 16 when Next Generation started.
I am bummed we have to wait for more episodes given the audio issues and Mikeâs vacation, but the guys are fun. They are also great at recaping. Something I criticized both 9021OMG AND DramaQueens about. With 90210 I had seen so many of the episodes so many times, and with One Tree Hill I had just done a rewatch before they started, but if I hadnât I would be so lost at what was happening with the episodes.
