Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent

Yeah I think the court would go easy on Alice given the situation she was in. I liked the episode but I did wonder about the specifics of Alice’s access to the poison, and I would’ve liked more of a sense of the victim and his scummy nature and his wife too - was his wife a spy and did she have any idea that her husband was a rapist? And I doubt Alice was his first victim. That part seemed underdeveloped. There was a lot crammed into the episode.
I do wonder if we’ll see Graff’s half brother again, I just hope they don’t do to Graff and this show what the showrunners of American CI did to Goren in season 6. The parallels between Graff and Goren are interesting.
I think Theo Forrester is really underused, even moreso than Carver on American CI - I did enjoy seeing him try a case in Canadian court once this season and I hope we see more of him in the future because other than that one episode he was barely onscreen. The Inspector is kind of underused as well. But I enjoy Graff/Bateman a lot. Really glad there will be more episodes and that it’s coming to American tv.

I think we will eventually see Myles Graff again. (Although I read that the actor, Jay Ryan, had a Netflix show of his, called North of North, renewed for S2, so it may come down to scheduling. TPTB left the Graff brothers’ relationship sort of hanging…)

I get the impression that Gord’s (perv victim) wife, Kelly, wasn’t involved in any of the cloak and dagger stuff and was just ‘following orders’ as she told G/B.

And yeah, I hope Theo Forrester and Vivienne Holness eventually get more to do. Maybe an episode or two with their characters at the center or something.

For anyone curious about the show (set to premiere on September 24th at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW), its site has put up a video sneak peek of the first seven or so minutes of its premiere episode, “The Key To The Castle”.

I’m really glad this show is coming to American TV. It’s been very strong, both seasons 1 and 2 were great.

Yeah, it was good! I hope others at least give it a try…

Just finished watching “Crack Reporter” (preempted last week, ironically, for a political debate) on the CW, and it amuses me how the blood and gore aren’t edited out from the US version, but the swear words are. :face_savoring_food: If anyone wants to see it, it always streams the next day on the CW app.

The Season 3 trailer dropped on Facebook today. It will premiere in Canada, apparently, on March 5th. Hope the CW will pick this season up (guessing S2, which was already picked up with Season 1, will air in the fall?)!

Cool - I’ve really liked the first 2 seasons of Toronto CI - very nice to have new stories in the CI format

Yeah. I would always wish to see G/E one last time, but TCI is very good.

Yeah I love how Toronto CI follows the formula of original CI but has new stories and original characters, I like all 4 characters and the cases have been really solid. I hope they go into Canadian court again like they did once last season.

The only way I would want a revival of American CI is if both Goren/Eames returned for at least the start of it, the way McCoy returned for the first couple of seasons on the original L&O revival. Goren/Eames are the faces of American CI. At least they got a great ending when we did last see them, even if SVU idiotically undid part of it.

Which is why I like to block out the SVU stuff. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

SVU is the weakest of the 3 major L&O shows and it’s taken a notable dive in quality over the years - I know you don’t watch it anymore but it’s actually gotten better since the start of season 26 - Benson is still annoying but at least there’s a good squad around her, and the legal stuff has been really solid lately. And they have good continuity between their show and the Mothership - Baxter appears frequently on SVU and once this season they even referenced a Mothership case in an SVU episode a week later.
But yeah it pisses me off how SVU did Goren. But the mention of him when Barek appeared a couple of years ago was nice!

I know season 3 is ongoing now - does anyone know where to watch it? I’ve really liked seasons 1-2 of Toronto CI

Just watched episode 1 of this season, Skin Deep, really strong episode as usual. The killer became obvious at the halfway point and then it just became a matter of proving it, a really good investigation. I loved Graff’s interrogation of the accomplice at the end and how he got her to break and turn on the killer, she got no sympathy from me, she knew the guy was a serial killer and kept on feeding vulnerable women to him. Also Graff hugging the doctor to see if he had marks on his back was funny.
With one of the murders taking place in NYC I thought it would’ve been awesome if they had managed to get a cameo from one of the characters on the Mothership or SVU, but I guess that would’ve been too much to ask for.
Case sort of reminded me of Jeffrey Epstein, as well as other powerful predator cases, stuff the franchise has done before but still very well done.

Yeah, the NYC bit was a nice wink to original CI (and the other shows there in the franchise!). Also liked the other subtle nod when G/B were talking to the NYC detective via Zoom or whatnot. It looked like someone tried hard to recreate 1PP with the gray walls and vertical blinds, etc. Strong opener for the season. Actually, S3 as a whole has been strong. The most-recent episode apparently had to do with a case in 2020 in Canada involving the death of a young girl named Keira Kagan as well as her dad. Just some context for when you watch it. Googled it after someone mentioned the name (American here!), and it’s tragic.

Anyway, the 1PP attempt below:

Just watched episode 2 - another great episode, intricate plot, I liked how they tied it all together. I had a feeling the victim was a patsy being set up by the real mastermind and that was why he didn’t have the money, so I suspected the real killer since he was the one who knew the victim’s identity in the first place. It was wild how the kidnapping wound up resulting in the murder, I doubt the perp would’ve resorted to murder at least for the time if the kidnapping hadn’t occurred, but it almost worked in the perp’s favor as he could kill the patsy and almost got away clean, I liked how Graff and Bateman figured it all out. Very intricate plot.

Watched episode 3 - another strong one, I loved seeing them go into court, nice to see Theo get a larger role, I’ve said before I think he’s underused, so I liked how he was integral to the case here. Also another perp with an awful parent, something American CI did a lot.

Yeah, and Lucy DeSilva, the ME, also got a bit more meat in that one. She’s no Liz Rodgers, but who is? :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: She’s still a good character.
